The Granary Project is Complete!

I’m pleased to be sharing this post as it means only one thing… The Granary project is COMPLETE!

I first visited The Granary, located just outside Davidstow in North Cornwall, at the end of April, in the hope to be taking it on as an interiors design project (see ‘The Granary Project, Cornwall‘ post for more info). It was at mid-construction stage at that point so had all the potential to become something rather special. Over the last 2.5 months I have worked closely with the owners to create a holiday home that was not only special to them and reflected their individual style, but also appealed to the holiday rental market.

The challenges of a project like this are in balancing the numerous demands that come with it. For example, not only do the pieces you select for the property have to look good and fit within the space and design scheme, they have to be practical and durable to withstand the constant level of use from guests. As always, the budget constraints need to be considered, as does the deadline (in this case, August was our completion date so the property could accept peak season bookings) and any restrictions on room flow and layout.

Last week was launch week and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the result. I hope you think so too?!

April 2021:

And Now:

The Master Bedroom

We went with a warm and welcoming master bedroom design with soft pinks, muted mustards and deep auburns. The Granary is in a remote rural location and the surrounding area is so beautiful with lots of wild flowers, so we really wanted to emphasise  this essence of wilderness and nature within the interiors.

This room now benefits from an ensuite and wardrobe which we added to the original drawings as this was not featured in the original plans. I’m so glad we added these as they really complete the room and provide guests with a touch of luxury.

(N.B the floral cushions I bought for The Granary are from Westelm but sadly aren’t in stock any more so I’ve included a couple of alternatives.)

The Twin Room

To allow for both adults and children to stay in this room, we opted for zip and link beds from Hotel Contract Beds and chose their ‘Oatmeal’ fabric colour way for the bed bases. The headboards were bespoke made by my upholsterer using Nori fabric by Clay Mclaurin. These were teamed with a velvet lumber cushion in the colour ‘Mayfly’ by Arlo & Jacob and a Leamington stripe cushion in ‘French Blue’ by Miller & Chalk.

In addition to all the new purchases that were made for this project, there were a lot of second hand purchases too. In this room, the chest of drawers, the white bamboo mirror and the lamp were all from Facebook Marketplace. The owner also had some of their own pieces, namely the seaside prints and frames.

The Open Plan Living/Dining

The open plan living/dining area is on the first floor which adjoins the kitchen and leads out to the enclosed garden with hot tub. It’s a stunning space and benefits from a vaulted ceiling and exposed oak beams. To ensure the room felt light and bright, we painted the purlins white to match the ceiling and stained the wooden A-frames. I’m really pleased with the result as it gives a contemporary feel to the space whilst retaining some of the traditional features of the original barn.

The Kitchen

We opted for the Fairford kitchen from Howdens in the colour sage green and installed a quartz worktop from a local stockist. The colour works wonderfully with the painted wooden windows of the house and the overall look and feel is just what we were after.

There is a little balcony off the kitchen area which makes for the perfect spot to have a morning coffee and a slice of toast!

The Garden

In the garden, we installed an eco friendly Woodpecker hot tub and planted up some wonderful flowers in the rockery area. The lounge/dining set from Luxury Rattan (part of a collaboration) works so well with the space and provides guests with a great area to entertain.

So there you have it, The Granary in all its glory! I hope you enjoyed following along with this project and like the end result? Do let me know in the comments section below.

Thanks for reading, SJ x
