Our garden transformation

In light of my Instagram stories poll yesterday, I can reveal 96% of you said ‘Yes’ to a blog post on our garden transformation so…. here it is!

I had to dig out the archives for this post as our work in the garden started right back in 2013. We moved into the house in August 2012 and 4 weeks later had Riley, so work didn’t properly kick off until the Spring of 2013.

As you will see from the pictures below, the house and garden looked quite different when we first moved here.

The rear of the house, August 2012
The back garden, August 2012

The first thing we did was strip the garden right back, opening up the space and adding a lot more lawn. We removed a skip load of plants and trees (some went to good homes), a green house, 3 water features, a pergola, palm trees… yes palm trees! and a vegetable patch. Not only did this garden provide us with a lot of work, it looked small and cluttered. With two boys and two dogs in tow, we needed an open space for them to run and play.

As part of the house project, the decking area was redesigned and raised to sit flush with the house, so the old one was completely removed. We purchased new railway sleepers for the raised planters and new decking wood for the builders to construct the platforms with.

After 5 years of living here and I am pleased to say that the garden and house are now complete. We have a much more open garden which the children and dogs can play in and a new house with adjoining decking to entertain on.

Although… we do have some more plans up our sleeve for at the end of the garden – so watch this space 😉

I hope you enjoyed all the pictures! Thanks for taking a look. x
