Children’s Furniture with Aspace

When faced with the task of furnishing my children’s rooms, I’d like to think that I approach it no differently than how I would for any other room in my home.

I am a strong believer of sourcing items from a range of different stores, from high-end to high-street, custom made to mass produced. Through carefully selecting individual pieces, you can bring together a cohesive look whilst also balancing out the purse strings.

When selecting products, I often look at the price tag and ask myself, “do I think this is good value for money for what I want from it?”. It could be a really inexpensive item which looks excellent value for money but when you actually look at what it is to be used for, it is completely useless! Personally, I like to invest in key pieces within my home and save on the less impactful ones. For example, a statement wardrobe and a beautiful rug, are my investment pieces and wall shelves and small decorative accessories are my easy/less costly purchases.

For Scarlett’s and James’ bedroom, I have applied the very same method and thought process, and have sourced furniture pieces and decorative items from a range of different stores. My most recent additions have been two Charterhouse chest of drawers from Aspace, a UK based, children’s bedroom furniture specialist.

When we moved back into the house we didn’t have much furniture to style the rooms with. Scarlett had the boys’ old cot, my friend’s second-hand changing unit and our old bedroom wardrobe which we bought from an antique shop in Windsor over 9 years ago. James had some old Ikea furniture and a revamped pine chest of drawers which I chalk-painted with Riley when I was 9 months pregnant with Scarlett. They both desperately needed a new set of drawers, Scarlett didn’t have one and James’ constantly got stuck when you tried to open and close the drawers!

What attracted me to the Charterhouse chest of drawers by Aspace was the simplicity of its design. The curved edges and skirting give it a smart, classic look and the smooth, unfussy trims make this a timeless piece which can be easily placed within most room decors.

There are 5 different colours to choose from and even an option to have your own bespoke colour made up if required. Having a choice of colours made it possible for me to select the same set of drawers for both Scarlett and James whilst keep to the individual styles of their rooms.

For Scarlett, I went with Silk White to match her white, pink and grey colour scheme and for James, Prussian Blue to match his blue, red and grey colour scheme.

Each one is made to order and according to Aspace “built to last”. They are priced at £550 each so require a fairly reasonable level of investment. When faced with my own question of “do I think this is good value for money for what I want from it?”, I am left considering all the pros of this beautifully made, well designed, statement piece and my answer is “yes”. The feel, the functionality and the attention to design practicalities are exceptional – the little detail of the skirting touching the floor so that no dust, no socks, no crayons can get underneath, is brilliant!

It has been designed for today’s family, is functional and offered in a range of colour options to fit your style. For all of this, it really is a worthwhile investment and something to applaud.
