Utility Room Transformation

Our utility room has been one of those rooms that you push to the back of your mind and forget all about. It is a functional room that is home to our dogs, our coats and our washing machines but somehow lacks a sense of style and that completed look… until now, that is!

When we first moved into the house, the utility room was very yellow and contained a lot of orange coloured pine. The units were very basic and the worktop was a cheap piece of MDF. I think it is fair to say that this room didn’t look particularly attractive or inspiring!

As part of the build project we stripped the utility room bare – literally, nothing was left in this room! All the units were ripped out, the doors and windows were removed, the window sills were taken out and all the floor tiles were taken up.

To keep costs down we chose an affordable kitchen option for the utility room and went with Wren Kitchens. We chose a framed door option in the colour Pebble Matt from their Linda Barker range. I am not sure this range still exists but they do have similar ranges available and this colour is still an option. The door handles, the sink and the tap were all purchased at Wren Kitchens.

For the work surfaces however, I decided to buy from a local stone company where I found the price, including installation, to be so much cheaper than if I were to source from Wren Kitchens. I opted for pure white quartz to go down the long side of the utility room and to curve around the corner to join up with the large floor-to-ceiling larder cupboard. Underneath this corner, we left space for the dog’s beds.

The walls and floors were a continuation of our large open space with Wimborne White painted on the walls and Marzano marble tiles laid on the floors.

Over this past weekend, Matt and I (at last…!) managed to put the finishing touches to our utility room and put up the new shelves and wall brackets that I bought a few weeks back along with the two new roman blinds that I had made by my local haberdasher. Together, these have finished off the room nicely, making the space feel much more inviting and styled. Overall I am really happy with the look.
