It may be the smallest room in our house but this downstairs toilet underwent one massive transformation!
We completely gutted the room by removing all sanitary ware, tiles, the radiator, window, and even the door.
I wanted a very simple and uncomplicated look for this room so opted for white Wave Blanco tiles 25cm x 50cm and purchased them from Ebberns Tiles.
I’ve tried to source them online for you all but haven’t managed to find the exact ones. That said, these Tiles Ahead ones look extremely similar – they may even be the same ones but just named differently.
Due to this room being relatively small in size (1m wide by 2.1m long), I had to ensure my sanitary items were the of right proportion. As such, I chose the HIB Metro Washbasin and the Vado Te Mono Basin Mixer Tap.
We tiled all around the lower part of the walls to maximize the amount of light and to minimize the number of wall marks that could be made by the children once we were living in the house.
As a counterbalance, I opted for a dark, bold colour for the top half of the walls. I chose Hague Blue which is also on my kitchen island meaning there is a flow of colour between the rooms downstairs. As with all our paint colours in the house, we coloured matched using Dulux paint.
They say small rooms can handle dark colours and I definitely believe this to be true. By absorbing the light, the walls of the room are less clearly marked and can give an illusion of more space. Plus, it adds a bit of drama to the room design… and who doesn’t like drama!
The toilet was purchased from Victorian Plumbing and is the Toronto Modern Round Wall Hung Toilet with soft close seat. The floor tiles are a continuation of the ones used in our kitchen living space which are Mazzano Marble Tiles from Pure Stone.
We decided to rehang the door on the other side of the frame so it wouldn’t interfere with the basin and to allow users a better view of the mirror as you enter the room. This Prisma Mirror can be purchased from Amara.
So there you have it, our downstairs toilet transformation!

This may be a silly question but how do I go about colour matching with Dulux? I know there are stations at B&Q but do I just quote the F&B colour to them?

We used a local paint merchant that sells dulux and took a paint sample, a swatch and the farrow and ball paint. From there, they could get a really good colour match.
Can I ask why you had it matched in dulux instead of using F&B? We have used F&B in a few rooms love the colours but the finish is very patchy and poor.

Our builders weren’t keen to use farrow and ball so we used dulux because it covers much better!
Mirror is stunning in gold/brass. I have it in black also in the downstairs bathroom.
