Our Home is so Important

I get asked a lot – “what do you do?”, “what is an Instagrammer/blogger?”, “why do people follow you?”, “how did you begin?”. My answer…

I am a self-employed Mum of three, who constantly juggles a work-life balance. I love all things house and home and in 2016, began a blog that shared our journey of building a home for our family. I try to interest people with my talkative Instagram stories, share my on-the-go lifestyle and my all-round positive attitude. My goal is to be happy and my aim is to inspire.

For most of us, our home is our core. It is where we feel secure, happy, content and loved. We put our heart and our soul into making it a space that we feel most comfortable in.

My home is all of the above and has been the backbone of my online social media journey. It has allowed me to work independently, be a Mum, a blogger, and an Instagrammer. Now that the house build is complete, I share more than just the home – I share our way of life within it. Through sharing what we get up to, the foods we eat, the places we go and the projects we take on, I hope to inspire my followers.

I am very grateful for what I have and I always will be. Which is why I would like to give something to those less fortunate than ourselves. I spend much of my time showcasing my home and discussing interiors, but there are many people out there who do not have a house to live in, let alone a place that they can call their home. We are incredibly fortunate to have what we have and this has never been lost on both my husband and I.

For a while, I have been thinking about how I can give something back, how I can do something – however small – to help those who may have fallen on very tough times. Instagram has given me an amazing platform to explore opportunities and now I hope that I can perhaps use this to raise awareness of a major problem and to help benefit others.

I have therefore decided to work very closely with the charity CRISIS who strive to put an end to homelessness in the UK.

Why Crisis?

After visiting one of their Skylight centers and talking to the team at Crisis, I was truly enlightened by their all-encompassing approach to fighting homelessness. Each and every individual is different and has a different reason for being without a home. Crisis acknowledges this and as such, offers expert help to find safe housing, opportunities for the homeless to gain new skills plus wellbeing and safety advice. Every year they work with thousands of people to help them rebuild their lives and leave homelessness behind for good.

How will I be involved?

Throughout the course of this year, I will be volunteering for a number of projects in support of this charity. My first will be The Three Peaks Challenge – to climb the highest mountains in Scotland, England, and Wales within a 24-hour window….! These peaks represent a total height of 3,408m (or 11,246 feet) and nearly 500 miles of driving between them – so to do this inside 24 hours we will have to shift!

My ‘team’ will consist of myself, my husband Matt and his Father John (who turned 70 this year!) and our much-loved Border Collie, Sky. My Dad will also be involved as the Chief Driver and Team Support. As a father-daughter/father-son team, we will set out from Somerset on Friday 5th July 2019 on a journey to Scotland where we will begin our Three Peaks Challenge.

This challenge not only represents a chance to show our support for Crisis, but it also strengthens our ability to come together and our bond as a family unit to support one another.

If you would like to come on board and show your support for our challenge, you can do this in a number of ways. Either by simply following our journey via my Instagram feed, liking and commenting as we march over the mountains and/or by donating a contribution to our chosen charity, Crisis. Whichever way you choose to support us, you will be having a positive impact!

If you would like to donate (even just a pound or two…!), please click HERE!

Thank you, and please wish us good luck!

It’s great to read this SJ. Bloggers and ‘Grammers get criticised a lot at the moment for being self obsessed and narcissistic, so it’s just brilliant to hear how social media can be used to raise awareness and funds for a good cause. Wishing you all the very best for your upcoming challenge!
