In a bid to cut down the level of waste this Christmas, I have decided not to purchase any crackers but instead, save one small present that would normally go under the Christmas tree and wrap it beautifully in music sheet paper, bought from my local charity shop, to sit on each person’s place setting around the table.
Not only is this a more sustainable approach, each place setting is personalised (using a named stamp from The English Stamp Company) and I think really adds something special to the Christmas table!
The handmade music sheet bags were created taking inspiration from my very talented friend, Susannah Hemmings. If you would like instructions on how to make these, check out Susannah’s ‘How to’ stories highlight via Instagram @susannahhemmingsstylist.

Do let me know if you are doing something similar this Christmas and if so, what gifts you will be giving!

SJ, you are so talented at making the simplest things look so beautiful. I love referring to your pictures and posts and getting inspiration from them.
We’ve done table gifts for some time. It was started by my auntie 20 years ago when we all got a lovely new mug on our place setting.
This year I have least started shopping for the two dinners I’m hosting so I’ll put a little list below as I know how helpful it can be for others to refer to (if they’re anything like me!!)
Dad – jar of homemade fig jam
Mum – mini Clinique lipstick
40 year brother – wine charms from tk maxx
40yo sister in law – magnetic fridge memo board
35 yo sister – candle
Nieces and nephews – hot wheels car (Poundland) , note book and pen (joules sale & Poundland), sequin slapband (Poundland), heart shaped baking tray (tk maxx), neon nail polish set (tkmaxx) .
Have a lovely Christmas SJ; I’m sure all your creativity and effort will show those around you how much you love and care for them X

Yeah, we always do table gifts, contents depend on how many people involved but have included Molton Brown travel size goodies, nail polish, TWC votive, metal ice cubes, kids top trumps etc. Will take inspiration from your (and anyone else’s) ideas and certainly the lovely sheet music wrapping 💕
